What is your position within your company?
I am project manager for Preferred Inc., Fort Wayne, Ind.

What is the most unusual roofing project of which you have been a part?
We installed a single-ply roof system on a large lake house that resembled a castle. The project was unique and detail-oriented.

Why did you become involved in the roofing industry?
I started working for Preferred during the summer before my final semester of college. I graduated in 2007 when the economic downturn occurred—the job market was tough so I kept the roofing job, and I've been with the company for 10 years.

What was your first roofing experience?
When I was 17, I removed shingles from a house for a local contractor.

What is your roofing industry involvement?
My company is a member of NRCA and the Building Contractors Association (BCA) of Northeast Indiana. I currently am enrolled in Class 8 of NRCA University's Future Executives Institute and BCA's Young Professionals Forum program.

What song are you listening to over and over?
I mainly listen to sports talk radio.

What was your first job?
I was a bun toaster at Wendy's when I was 14.

People would be surprised to know …
I am not a fan of heights, but I have become accustomed to working from them because it's part of my job.

What quality do you most admire in a person?
Humbleness

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Anywhere in the Caribbean.

What do you consider a waste of time?
Complaining

What's the most exciting/adventurous thing you've done?
A helicopter ride through the Grand Canyon

What is your favorite stress reliever?
Golf

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A professional baseball player

My favorite part about working in the roofing industry is …
I like seeing a project through from the take-off to the finished product, and I enjoy solving problems for customers.

What's your favorite roofing material to work with? Why?
Thermoplastic membranes because the material is a great product, pliable and user-friendly

What is your favorite food?
Tacos

What is the most high-tech item in your house?
My smart TV

If you could meet any historical figure, whom would you meet? Why?
George Washington. I think it would be interesting to hear about all the adversity he went through to help form the U.S.

Small town

Raising a family

  • Miniature masterpieces

    NRCA's fourth annual Children's Art Contest received 30 submissions from children in grades 1-8 who are related to NRCA members and their employees. Co-sponsored by A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply, Aurora, Ill., the contest was conducted as part of NRCA's National Roofing Week held June 4-10. More than 900 votes were cast online in May to determine the three contest winners.
