Perry with his wife, Julia, and daughter, Landry

What is your position within your company?
I am managing partner with Absolute Roofing & Waterproofing, Frisco, Texas.

What is the most unusual roofing project of which you have been a part?
The Corps of Cadets dorm renovation project my company completed at Texas A&M University in College Station (see "A roofing salute," December 2017 issue)

Why did you become involved in the roofing industry?
I was given an opportunity at a young age to sell residential roof system repairs, and I was quite good at it. Needless to say, I caught the "bug" early in life.

What was your first roofing experience?
My first roofing experience was selling residential hail repair jobs in Flower Mound, Texas. I was so nervous as I knocked on the door of the first house I visited, but I presented my pitch and completed my first sale. I was hooked!

What is your roofing industry involvement?
I am a member of NRCA, the North Texas Roofing Contractors Association, RCI Inc. and the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas.

What was your first job?
I worked in the kitchen of the first standalone Chick-Fil-A in Lubbock, Texas.

What songs are you listening to over and over?
Any songs by Luke Combs or Jason Aldean

What quality do you most admire in a person?
Reliability

What do you consider a waste of time?
Repeating the same thing over and over

What's the most exciting/adventurous thing you've done?
My wife and I cage-dived with sharks in the Pacific Ocean.

What do you consider your most rewarding experience?
Raising a girl. I come from a family of all boys, so this experience has opened me up to the importance of being a good example as a man for my daughter. I enjoy watching her grow and learn about life.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?
Maldives. It's a trek to get there, requiring more than 36 hours of travel, but the water and location in the Indian Ocean is more beautiful than anything I have ever seen. My wife and I have been fortunate to travel to many exotic places, but Maldives is bucket-list worthy.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always thought I might go into business for myself. I would say my dream has come true through lots of hard work.

My favorite part about working in the roofing industry is...
The people I get to meet, do business with and befriend. Suppliers, manufacturer representatives and general contractors all contribute to my appreciation for being a roofing professional.

What's your favorite roofing material to work with? Why?
Fleece-backed TPO because it creates a strong roof system that gives customers peace of mind knowing the system will be secure on their buildings for a long time.

What is the most high-tech item in your house?
A Control4® in-home remote that controls our TVs, music selection, pool temperature, air conditioning, lights and garage door.

Big city or small town?
A big town to live in and a small town to relax and hunt in

What is your favorite stress reliever?
Playing with my 2 1/2-year-old daughter. At that age, children don't have a care in the world. They just want mommy and daddy to be with them, play with them and love them.
