What is your position within your company?
I am project manager for Ruff Roofers Inc., Baltimore.
What is the most unusual roofing project of which you have been a part?
We installed Terne II flat-seam metal panels on the Union Square Pavilion in Union Square Park, Baltimore. The
100-square-foot Greek-style pavilion was built in the 1850s and covers a natural spring that once serviced the
Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Ruff Roofers received a 2014 NRCA Gold Circle Award for the project.
Why did you become involved in the roofing industry?
Ruff Roofers gave me the first job offer I received after graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park.
What was your first roofing experience?
My first roofing experience was a site visit for an upcoming reroofing project. I remember the existing roof was
cedar shake; the visit happened during an afternoon in July, and I was sweating through my clothes.
What song are you listening to over and over?
I don't have a favorite song, but I enjoy listening to Coldplay songs or Spotify's "Classical for Concentration"
playlist.
What is your roofing industry involvement?
Ruff Roofers is an active NRCA member. I have attended the International Roofing Expo® twice, and I currently am
enrolled in Class 8 of NRCA University's Future Executives Institute.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Why?
Teleportation—I'd love to be able to travel anywhere without the hassle of getting there.
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
An astronaut or baseball player—when I was 3 years old, I watched baseball for hours. My mom had it easy.
What's the most exciting/adventurous thing you've done?
Cycling in the French Alps—I did a couple of the famous climbs used in the Tour de France.
People would be surprised to know …
I fractured my pelvis in May 2016 and couldn't walk for three months.
What three items always are in your fridge?
Dijon mustard, light mayonnaise and maple syrup
What's your favorite roofing material to work with? Why?
Tile because jobs that require roof tiles don't come along often. I toured the Ludowici® Roof Tiles factory in
New Lexington, Ohio, which helped me appreciate the material.
If you had a time machine, would you go to the future or the past? Why?
I would go to the past. I would have liked to live in a simpler time, maybe on my in-laws' farm that was built in the
1800s.
My favorite part about working in the roofing industry is …
I like the wide array of different jobs we do because new challenges continuously present themselves.
What do you consider your most rewarding experience?
Becoming a father
What is the most high-tech item in your house?
A "smart" indoor cycling trainer—my road bike attaches to it, and the trainer pairs with computer software to
adjust the resistance automatically.
