Morin,® a Kingspan Group Co., Bristol, Conn., recently introduced an on-site roll-forming process that runs metal panels to roof eaves.

The 161-foot-long panels required for a roofing project on Logan High School, Russellville, Ky., could not be delivered via truck, so the company manufactured 89,000 square feet of 18-inch-wide SymmeTry Roof Series 22-gauge Galvalume® panels on-site in varying lengths from 46 feet to 161 feet.

Once the roll former was in place, about 100 feet from the eaves, three scissor lifts were placed between the roll former and roof edges where the panels were guided into place for installation.

  • Rooftop photosynthesis

Building owners who desire the addition of sustainable attributes for their buildings often select vegetative roof systems. • Somewhere in middle America

The new Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha aims to transform the way cancer is diagnosed and treated. Tasked with installing types of six roof systems on 14 roof areas atop the center, Scott Enterprises Inc., Omaha, overcame inclement weather and challenging material staging conditions to help complete the revolutionary cancer treatment facility.

  • Chemical considerations

The environment in which a roof system will be exposed is an important consideration in roof system design. Built-up roofing, or a polymer-modified bitumen or single-ply roof membrane can prematurely age when there is not chemical compatibility with its surroundings. Rooftop exhaust, prior roof systems and the rooftop activities of other trades all can affect whether a roof system functions properly.
