Close-up

Constructed in 1929, the 102-story Empire State Building in New York City is the fourth-tallest completed skyscraper in the U.S.

A comprehensive energy-efficient retrofit program recently was implemented to reduce the Empire State Building's total energy consumption by 38 percent. As part of the sustainable upgrades, Xero Flor® America's Xero Flor Green Roof System was installed on four rooftop areas: 21st floor east; 21st floor west; 25th floor northwest; and 30th floor west. The 21st floor rooftops also feature patios for office tenants' use.

The energy-efficient program has earned the Empire State Building an ENERGY STAR® 80 rating and LEED® Gold certification.
