On Feb. 4, the 2013 International Roofing Expo® (IRE) held Community Service Day in San Antonio. The IRE partnered with NRCA's Disaster Relief Committee and Rebuilding Together® San Antonio to host two home renovation and revitalization projects.

More than 50 volunteers, including former NRCA Presidents Allen Lancaster (on the ladder) and Rob Therrien (on the ground), helped renovate the homes of Concepción and Enrique Merendon and Maria Luna. Volunteers painted, rebuilt porch steps, replaced skirting, repaired eaves and assembled a playground in the backyard for children, among other things.

Sika Sarnafil, Canton, Mass., was the sponsor for the day and provided materials, and NRCA volunteers and IRE attendees provided the labor. Additionally, Benco Commercial Roofing, Fort Worth, Texas, donated a roof system to the Merendon home.

Community Service Day was featured on a local news station, KABB-TV FOX San Antonio.
